Built in 1953, this unique vehicle started out life carrying hides for its 1st owner, who is now over 90 years old. The present owner found the Mercedes in Italy where for many years it had worked on a vineyard.
The Mercedes was repatriated to Germany 5 years ago and under its present ownership a full and detailed restoration of this last remaining Mercedes 170SD Lueg pick up truck commenced. A 3 year painstaking restoration has taken place, using the original parts wherever possible. The quality and sympathy that has gone into restoring this vehicle is truly astonishing and supported by over 5000 detailed pictures following its restoration
In 2014 this Mercedes was invited to be displayed at the Goodwood Revival due to its historic interest and was reliably driven to Goodwood from Cologne and back; a testament to the thoroughness of the rebuild.
Recently it has been established that this car is probably the only Mercedes 170SD pickup that has a Lueg body, and moreover the only registered surviving 170SD Lueg pick up. The vehicle is also probably the one featured in the Mercedes Benz book ‘Halwart Schrader ISNN 3-405-1227-9 Mercedes Benz Automobile vom 170 V zum 300SL’
An incredible investment opportunity to own a charming and unique Mercedes that will ensure a priority pass to most car shows. We also consider that the vehicle could earn an income from being hired out to the film and other industries.
